If you have a coffee maker at home, you must have thought about making hot chocolate in the morning. However, can you make hot chocolate in a coffee maker? It is a question that hit me one morning, and I just had to try.

It isn’t as easy as it seems, and I ended up making several errors during the process. However, the good news is you won’t need to make any errors while making hot chocolate in a coffee maker. I am here to walk you through the entire process in this step by step guide.

Requirements

  • Hot chocolate mix packets/ Hot Chocolate Powder
  • Hot Water
  • Coffee maker

Making Hot Chocolate in a Coffee Maker: Step by Step Process

  • Start by filling your coffee maker with water. Note that this is a similar step to how you would make coffee in the morning.
  • Open and empty the hot chocolate packets into your coffee maker. The entire hot chocolate powder of your sachets needs to be emptied into the coffee carafe. Understand that 5 cups of water will need around four packets for a richer taste.
  • You can then add your preferred sweetener to the coffee maker. Skip this step, in case you prefer your hot chocolate sugarless.
  • Turn on your coffee maker and allow it to run for a couple of minutes. Wait until the mixture is appropriately boiled, and all the powder is dissolved.
  • Serve your hot chocolate with your preferred snacks and enjoy it.

The good news is that you get to use any coffee machine when preparing hot chocolate. However, note that different coffee machines will get you different temperatures. Some of these coffee machines can give you relatively hot chocolate than others.

Now, Can You Make Hot Chocolate In A Coffee Maker? There are other different ways that you can make hot chocolate using a coffee machine. Below are a few more ways of getting your hot chocolate fix in the morning using a coffee maker.

Using a Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine

The bean-to-cup coffee machine always seems complicated and only designed for one function – making coffee. However, did you know that you can also use them to make hot chocolate? Well, below is a step by step guide on how to do it quickly.

Note that you get to choose between two options. Both of which are clearly illustrated in the section below.

Method 1

Suppose the coffee maker features a milk frother, steam milk for a couple of minutes before adding a sachet or three of the chocolate flavors you want. Ensure that the milk is halfway done before introducing the hot cholate sachets.

Stir the mixture for a minute before adding hot water. I love this method because it gets you the creamy hot chocolate that is quite refreshing. For those who love heavy cream, I would recommend this method to them. Using this method is perfect when it is raining or during the winter.

Method 2

The second method is mixing the hot chocolate sachets while adding hot boiling water from your water sprout. This is a simple procedure that gets you your hot chocolate fix within a few minutes. However, this method is perfect for lactose-intolerant individuals or merely needs to stay away from dairy products.

Using a Coffee Vending Machine

The easiest way to get yourself hot chocolate in the morning is by using a coffee vending machine. Some of these coffee makers have a specially designed canister for making chocolate. You will, most of the time, find an empty canister that you can fill up with your preferred hot chocolate flavor.

Using a Capsule Coffee Maker

Capsule coffee machines can be rather challenging to use when making hot chocolate. Understand that these coffee machines have a limited number of capsules. It is, therefore, advisable to purchase a model with a hot chocolate capsule already installed.

However, you can add the hot chocolate flavor powder to the milk if the coffee maker has a milk powder capsule.

When boiled, the milk becomes crusty, and it can clog various parts of your machine badly.

Yes, of course. As already mentioned above, you can certainly use Espresso coffee machines to prepare hot chocolates.

Some espresso machines like Breville, the Barista Express Espresso Machine, and Breville BES840XL/A Infuser Espresso Machine come with an outlet for instant hot water.

I want to remind you that most of these machines do not make hot chocolate directly.

You will have to mix milk and cocoa powder in a separate pot and then use the hot water from these machine outlets to properly mix the solution.

Three things to remember about trying to put milk instead of coffee in a Keurig.

  • Coffee makers or at least coffee makers like Keurig come with filters in the water holding tank. Not sure exactly what that will do to the milk but will definitely destroy the filter a lot sooner.
  • I’ve never come across a coffee or know of one that will dissolve in milk. Water and heat are needed to flow through coffee grounds to make liquid coffee.
  • Oh, all right. What you would wind up with at best is coffee-flavored milk. Don’t try this. Doesn’t work. I would clog up the filter and machine.

P.S. Keurig/coffee experts chime in, but this is not a good idea and a waste of milk. I use milk in my coffee but not to make coffee. This can be done as an experiment and to waste milk but only once.

Can cocoa beans be roasted & made into a drink like coffee?

That is exactly what the cocoa product you purchase is: cocoa beans that have been roasted, ground, and some of the fats and oils separated from them.

The degree to which cocoa has been processed and individual components separated from the whole beans. It determines what people tend to do with cocoa. Like, making chocolate for candies or for eating as “pure” chocolate, removing more fats and oils.

So these are rather expensive and very useful fats and oils may be used for something else (from food products to cosmetics), using the drier cocoa left after some or most of the oils and fats have been removed for making cooking cocoa powder or cocoa for making drinks.

Some folks who buy unroasted cocoa beans prefer to roast and grind the beans and then use the whole cocoa product for cooking, candy-making (chocolates), or to make their own drinking cocoa.

How can you make a Hot Chocolate mix at home?

Surprisingly, Our experience says making a hot chocolate mix is quite easy at home. It will also save money for you.

If you want to make it delicious, you only need powdered milk to make the hot chocolate creamy, Cocoa powder(unsweetened), and sugar salt.

In a large bowl, sift the confectioner’s sugar, then the unsweetened cocoa, to eliminate any lumps. Stir in the powdered milk, and whisk well until everything is combined. Add mini marshmallows to the container, if desired. This can be kept in the pantry for 6 months.

When you want to make hot cocoa, combine equal parts of hot cocoa mix and hot water. I like to put the hot cocoa mix in the cup, add the hot liquid on top and stir not to get any lumps. Enjoy!
